From Monday next, Aer Arann is to increase its scheduled service from Waterford to Amsterdam to five flights each week. The two hour direct flight has proved very popular for those taking short breaks in the Dutch capital and using Schiphol Airport for onward travel to some of the 260 onward destinations in more than 90 countries. The extended schedule to Amsterdam will operate on each day other than Tuesdays and Saturdays from September 29.

Commenting on the additional flights, Waterford Airport CEO Graham Doyle said: “We’re delighted that Aer Arann is now expanding its service to five times a week service to Amsterdam. It’s a wonderful destination for short breaks and extended travel throughout the Netherlands. Amsterdam Schiphol is ranked in the top five of Europe’s hub airports offering onward travel options to the rest of the world. The destination is also great for accessing other major European cities with excellent rail links to most major urban centres in Europe.

“The Amsterdam link provides excellent and convenient access to Ireland for visitors to the southeast and other Irish destinations and the increased availability of flights will offer a welcome boost to tourism here, particularly for short breaks,” added the CEO.

“I believe that, taken in conjunction with the existing scheduled services to other hubs such as London-Luton and to Manchester, the expanded Amsterdam service will be of huge interest to the business community and all potential fliers in Waterford, Wexford, Kilkenny, Tipperary and Carlow providing a very convenient alternative to long road journeys and crowded airports. I congratulate Aer Arann on its continuing success and its commitment to providing the highest standard of service and convenience for the people from the southeast and further afield,” added Mr Doyle.

Garry Cullen, Managing Director, Aer Arann added: “We are very pleased to announce this extension to our schedule from Waterford Airport. Since the Amsterdam service was introduced at the beginning of this year, it has proved particularly popular with Irish people and with tourists who want to travel directly to the southeast.

“Aer Arann is proud to be expanding its services from Waterford. We see the expansion of this service to Amsterdam as further evidence of Aer Arann's commitment to the development of the entire Southeast region. Aer Arann and Waterford Airport have clearly demonstrated that together we can encourage new tourists to travel here and enjoy all that the region has to offer.”
