Waterford Airport welcomes announcement of Summer Sun Flights

The announcement by Irish tour operators Slatterys Sun that they will operate return flights from Waterford to Malaga, Spain; Bordeaux, France and Faro, Portugal during the 2007 summer season was welcomed by Waterford Airport.

Flights from Waterford to the holiday destinations on a BAE146 four-engine jet were due to begin on Friday, June 22 and initially run until the end of September.

Flights to Malaga leave Waterford on Tuesdays and Saturdays; Faro flights depart on Wednesdays and Sundays while flights to Bordeaux operate on Fridays and Mondays.

As well as flight-only options, Slatterys offer inclusive packages featuring flights and accommodation in the holiday destinations.

Commenting on the new routes, Graham Doyle, Chief Executive of Waterford Airport said: “These summer sun flights bring to seven the number of UK and European destinations that can be accessed with direct flights from Waterford and broaden the choice we offer passengers.

“The services operated by Slatterys are a direct response to market demand for convenient holiday flights from the southeast as people look to avoid traffic and airport congestion elsewhere.

“We expect strong interest in these routes to three very popular holiday destinations and they represent a further vote of confidence in Waterford Airport as an important part of the southeast’s transport infrastructure. We look forward to continued growth in our passenger throughput as well as to the roll out of the major capital investment programme for which we recently secured Government funding.”

The new summer sun flights are in addition to expanding direct Aer Arann services. A new Waterford-Birmingham service operates six times per week from May 14 (Sunday-Friday) while Waterford-Manchester has the same frequency. Flights to/from London Luton continue to operate twice daily at business-friendly times while additional service frequency is planned on selected days during the peak holiday months of July and August. Frequent seasonal services to Lorient in France resumed on May 19.
